| Halkieria were armoured, slug-like animals which are hypothesised as being ancestral to wiwaxia, the annelid worms and molluscs. Although complete fossils of this animal have not been found at the Burgess Shale it lived at the same time and evidence from fossil fragments indicate that it was present there. It is included here because of its importance from an evolutionary context. |
A examination of the evidence for the relationship this creature has to other species is discussed in the Crucible of Creation by Simon Conway Morris.
