- Keep a summary document of all the action you have taken, and
information you have found out about each spammer
- Take a photo of the text when it arrives to keep as a record
- Save copies of all web pages you find, or take screenshots, as
spammers will erase information when they realise they are being
tracked
- Be polite to the company who rings you back after you reply to a text
message. Often they aren't the original spammer and being polite will
get you more information.
- Put director names, phone numbers, company names & postcodes etc. into
google to find other information (such as associated companies) and
connections
- Set up a webmail account with a different name to contact spammers to
ask for SMS lead price lists etc. to be used as evidence
- Check all information you get as these people will lie to you every
chance they get. Trust no information you get from spammers (and
examples of them lying are good as evidence for the court)
- Remember that all information you post about a spammer on sites such
as Whocallsme is public. Your words may come back to haunt you if you
are not polite and truthful
- Email the contents of a text message to yourself so you have a record
of it that can be pasted into documents. Retyping it will introduce
mistakes
- Send all mail by recorded delivery so you can prove it has been
delivered
- Allways offer to settle out of court first. The courts will be more
sympathetic if you do this
- Only track one or two spammers at a time as it will get too confusing
otherwise, and you will get them mixed up
- Don't give any more information that you have to when communicating
with spammers
- Try to keep everything in writing or E-mail so it can be presented
as evidence i.e. avoid phone calls
